The print job is sent to the Google Cloud Print service where it will be rendered (turned into a format that the print device understands), before actually being send as part of the spooling process, which also happens within Cloud Print. Normally, when a print job gets processed this happens either locally, on the machine where the print job originated (client-side rendering), or on a print server. The setup and configuration is also straightforward, too. Best thing is, it can be used in parallel with your current print solution.
